Paul McNicholas receives the John L. Synge Award

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced that Paul McNicholas is the recipient of the John L. Synge award. The John L. Synge award was established in 1986 to recognize outstanding research in any of the branches of the mathematical sciences.

Paul served as President of the Classification Society from 2018 to 2019 and is currently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Classification. Paul is an internationally recognized leader in computational statistics research. His work is at the forefront of investigations in classification and clustering using mixture models, and he has developed important methodology covering almost every aspect of the field. He has pioneered new methods and tools to analyze large or complex datasets and collaborates with researchers from diverse disciplines to apply these approaches to difficult real data problems.
